Student Paper Competition

The Student Paper Competition (SPC) of the “2019 Asia-Pacific Radio Science Conference” (AP-RASC 2019) is open for applications. Any full-time university student from any country, who is the principal (first-named) author and the presenter of a paper (oral or poster) at a regular session of the AP-RASC 2019, can apply for the SPC.

Applications should be completed electronically on the AP-RASC 2019 conference website at “www.aprasc2019.com” by the deadline of 25 October, 2018. Every SPC applicants must be a full-time university student at the time of application, and submit his/her

  • Full-length paper (4 pages) IEEE paper style;
  • Certification letter by his/her advisor

The above documents should be submitted simultaneously through the Paper Submission web page in PDF format. The applicants should follow the instructions given on the conference website in preparation of their full-length papers. The certification letter should state clearly that the applicant is a full-time university student for a degree at the time of application. For a paper with multiple authors, the letter should state that the role of the authors other than the applicant was primarily advisory in nature. The certification letter should be printed on the university letterhead, signed by the applicant’s advisor, and scanned electronically.

The AP-RASC 2019 Young Scientist Program (YSP) Committee will peer-review applications, and select five finalists at the end of the review process. The YSP Committee will notify all the SPC applicants of the review results by email on 01 December, 2018. Within two weeks of the notification, every finalists must confirm that he/she will attend AP-RASC 2019. On 31 December, 2018, the list of the SPC finalists will be announced on the AP-RASC 2019 website (www.aprasc2019.com) and the URSI website (http://www.ursi.org). The finalists will receive

  • Free registration;
  • Free accommodation covering the full conference duration (6 nights).

Basic accommodation will be provided by the AP-RASC 2019 organizers. The SPC finalists may arrange alternative accommodation, but such arrangements are entirely at their own expenses.

The SPC Special Session, open to all AP-RASC 2019 participants, is scheduled in the afternoon of 11 March, 2019. All the five finalists should check into the allotted accommodation on 10 March, 2019, and present their papers orally in the SPC Special Session. They also have to present their papers in regular sessions (oral or poster). It is required that the finalists attend the official Conference Banquet held on 13 March, 2019, where the winners will be announced.

At the SPC Special Session on 11 March, 2019, members of the AP-RASC 2019 YSP Committee will judge presentations by the five finalists and select the three winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes). The following prizes will be awarded to these winners sat the Conference Banquet on 13 March, 2019:

  • 1st prize: certificate and US $ 1,000 dollar (in cash);
  • 2nd prize: certificate and US $ 750 dollar (in cash);
  • 3rd prize: certificate and US $ 500dollar (in cash).

The two non-winning finalists will each receive certificate identifying him/her as a finalist at the Conference Banquet. Selection results of the SPC will also be announced on the AP-RASC 2019 website and the URSI website on 15 March 2019. The SPC Special Issue is planned to be published in the March 2020 issue of the “URSI Radio Science Bulletin”. All the five SPC finalists are invited to submit their papers to this Special Issue.
